Google has announced last night the availability of Google Earth on the iPhone. The iPhone is the first mobile device to have a Google Earth application.
Google has taken the basics of the Google Earth interface and brought them to the iPhone. The app feels highly responsive and effectively mimics the desktop application on the iPhone. The iPhone touch interface allows to interact with the Earth application, for example tilting the screen will tilt the view in Google Earth. Google has also integrated the My Location feature, so with a touch of a button, users can fly to where they are in the real world thanks to a combination of cell-id, Wifi and GPS positioning technologies. In addition, Over eight million geo-tagged Panoramio pictures are available via the Google Earth interface. Google Earth also makes the most of the iPhone’s Multi-Touch control system, with pinch-zoom and rotate gestures - swiping a finger spins the globe around and if you lift the iPhone up, the accelerometer tilts the entire landscape so you can see the horizon. The application is immediately available for download through the Apple Apps store for free.
